Four Stunning #175 Dining Chairs by Arne Hovmand Olsen for Mogens Kold (Denmark)

This stunning set of four teak framed dining chairs was designed in the late 1950s by Arne Hovmand Olsen for Mogens Kold Mobelfabrik of Denmark.  Hovmand Olsen was a sought-after designer, and did work for many iconic Danish manufacturers including Alf Juul Rasmussen, J.L. Moller and A.R. Klingenberg.

These lovely chairs are known as model #175, and feature solid teak legs and back rests.  The back rests sweep upwards and inwards in a beautiful, graceful curve, giving the chairs a sense of lightness and elegance.  All four chairs have been re-strung with new Danish cord.

The chairs are all in good vintage condition with tight joints and no wobble on a flat surface.  The frames generally show wear commensurate with their age, however one of them has clearly been used more than the other three, and shows scratching to the seat back and wear to the top of one of the front legs (see photos).  To us it looks like this chair was used by someone wearing trouser braces who liked to pick at the leg of his chair, and if anything the results of his actions add character to the piece!

Overall this is a lovely set of chairs which would grace any mid-century or modern interior.
